SYDNEY (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the east coast of the north island of New Zealand on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.


The earthquake struck 196 km east north east of Gisborne, on the country's north island. There was no tsunami threat from the quake, according to the Pacific tsunami warning center.


There were no immediate reports of damage.
